Quarter-Turn Fasteners: Quick Access When It Matters Most

When equipment needs to be opened, serviced, or inspected regularly, traditional fasteners can slow the process down. That’s where quarter-turn fasteners come in. Designed for quick, repeatable access, these fasteners allow users to securely fasten and release panels with a quarter-turn.

At American Ring, our quarter-turn fasteners are trusted in aerospace, commercial, and industrial applications where reliability and efficiency are essential.

We can provide custom coatings to meet specific environmental, corrosion-resistance requirements.

What Are Quarter-Turn Fasteners?

A quarter-turn fastening system consists of a stud and a receptacle working together. When the stud is rotated one-quarter turn, it engages the receptacle to securely hold the panel in place. When access is needed, the fastener can be quickly disengaged, making it ideal for applications that require frequent inspection or maintenance.

Materials and Finishes

Most of our quarter-turn fasteners are manufactured from steel and feature protective plating to provide corrosion resistance. Because these fasteners are often used in controlled environments, such as aircraft interiors, avionics systems, and equipment housings, plated steel remains the most popular option due to its performance and cost-effectiveness.

Depending on the application, components can be supplied in plain steel, zinc-plated steel, stainless steel, or specialty finishes such as cadmium plating. We can also provide custom coatings to meet specific environmental, corrosion-resistance, or customer requirements.

Installation Made Easier

Quarter-turn fasteners are designed to simplify maintenance and service operations. Installation involves securing the receptacle to the structure, installing the stud through the panel, and engaging the system with a quarter-turn.

While specialized installation tools are not required, many customers choose to use them because they make receptacle and stud installation faster, easier, and more consistent. These tools are particularly valuable in production environments where efficiency and repeatability are important.

Common Applications

Quarter-turn fasteners were originally developed for the racing industry, where mechanics needed a fast way to remove vehicle panels and gain access to critical components. Today, they are used anywhere quick access is required without sacrificing secure retention. Common applications include:
  • Aerospace cockpit and avionics panels
  • Computer and electronic systems
  • Equipment housings
  • Electronic enclosures
  • Access panels
  • Marine and boating equipment
  • Commercial and industrial machinery

Value-Added Services

Beyond supplying standard quarter-turn fasteners, American Ring provides value-added services that help customers simplify procurement and assembly. For example, receptacle strips are commonly manufactured in 10-foot lengths, which can be difficult and costly to ship. As an authorized Southco supplier, American Ring can cut receptacle strips to customer-specified lengths, reducing waste and making installation easier. We can also provide custom plating, manufacture components to customer drawings, and help customers meet specific performance or certification requirements.
